CATHEXIS
With guests: Jane Powell, Ray Codrington, David "Fathead" Newman, Chip McNeill and Brian Lynch

A "Cathexis" is a concentration of emotional energies, and that's precisely what this project is; a group of musicians getting together to pool all of their talent, their energy, their drive, their humor, their personalities, into one big whirling "Cathexis!"

Our trio is joined by the legendary David Fathead Newman on sax and flute; the lyrical Ray Codrington on flugelhorn and trumpet (then adding percussion); the burning horns of Brian Lynch on trumpet and Chip McNeill on sax; and finally, the stellar Jane Powell who adds vocals to "In the Middle of the Night," "The Creator has a Master Plan," and then closes the CD with a timely "A Little Healing." I hope you enjoy the feeling of "Cathexis" too.

IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT: (LYRICS)
In the night…we go walking by,
Under a fairy tale, starry sky…
Good night lullaby.
In the night…we have all our dreams,
Under a blue, desert moon:
Nothing is what it seems.
Could it be?
Could it be you and me all alone?
Or is it fantasy?
Just a call...on the telephone...
Tell me it's true…
That you love me and I love you.
As the sun and the moon are one light…
In the day, and in the night.
In the night…we can be ourselves.
Under the cover of darkness,
Putting our day-lives on the shelves.
In the night…it isn't what it seems,
Or, maybe more real…
Even more real then our daytime dreams.
Could it be?
Could it be you and me…
All alone?
Or is it fantasy?…
Just a call…on the telephone…
Tell me it's true…
That you love me and I love you.
As the sun
And the moon are one light…
In the day, and in the night.
I want you for myself.
Just you, and no one else.
Come to me, if you can…
For, I have got a plan.
Oh, I can see the light…
Most every single night.
The stars, they shine so bright…
In the middle of the night…
In the middle of the night…
In the middle of the night…
In the middle of the night.
